WEATHER

Weather in Patagonia is a very important factor to consider. Remember that strong winds, rains and snow characterize this region. Winds blow from the northeast and the Pacific, crossing the southern Patagonian ice fields and forming continuous clouds that can result in nasty storms. Even if not very often good weather show up to give the pleasure to enjoy this place. Lenticular clouds will announce strong winds coming.

MTB Patagonia // 8 days – 7 nights

Day 1 // Santiago - Coyhaique

After having landed at the Balmaceda airport we will go directly to Coyhaique, where we will leave our things at the hostel and we will go pedaling around this beautiful Patagonian city. Night in Coyhaique.

Day 2 // Coyhaique

After getting acquainted with the the Patagonian climate, we will enjoy some of the best MTB trails surrounded by native forest and amazing landscapes in "El Fraile" ski center near Coyhaique. Night in Coyhaique.

Day 3 // Villa Cerro Castillo

This day we will leave Coyhaique to continue south towards the beautiful village of "Villa Cerro Castillo". Here we can go to enjoy some incredible trails in the middle of the Patagonian steppe with really impressive views of the imposing Cerro Castillo Mountain and the Tamango lagoon. There is also the possibility to leave our bikes stored and go trekking to the Cerro Castillo National Park, a very nice trek that mixes all kinds of landscapes, native forest, glaciers, mountains, rivers etc. Night at Villa Cerro Castillo.

Day 4 // Puerto Rio Tranquilo

After enjoying the incredible landscapes and trails of the wonderful town of Cerro Castillo, we will continue our journey further and further south. This day we will advance about 75 kms, always surrounding the gigantic General Carrera Lake (or Chelenko Lake in native language, the largest lake in Chile) to Puerto Rio Tranquilo, place where the famous and impressive Marble caves are. Here we can enjoy high level trails for the MTB, made by the same locals of this small town of Patagonia, with very nice views of the lake and the mountains of the area, where that start the huge North Ice Field. We will also sail to see the Marble Caverns, a tourist attraction typical of the area. Night in Puerto Rio Tranquilo.

Day 5 // Puerto Bertrand

Already more familiar with this incredible and wild place of the planet, we will continue towards our next destination: Puerto Bertrand, Place where one of the world's largest rivers is born, the great "Baker" River. Here "Mauro" (our local guide) will receive us in his "EcoCamp" designed exclusively for bikers. In this place, surrounded by native forest, rivers and mountains we will enjoy an incredible network of trails and a night in a really wonderful place. Night at Eco Camp Puerto Bertrand.

Day 6 // Puerto Guadal

Without disarming our camp, we will take our truck together with our local guide Mauro, to move a couple of kilometers to the northeast and go to enjoy another incredible network of trails around the rustic and beautiful town of Puerto Guadal. Night at Eco Camp or Puerto Guadal.

Day 7 // Chile Chico

Almost finishing our trip, we headed north in the direction of what would be our last location of the trip: Chile Chico. Chile Chico is a small town located on the east bank of General Carrera Lake and will be our last location before taking the plane to Santiago. Here we gonna go to the breathtaking "Jeinimeni" National Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Chile. Night in Chile Chico.

Day 8 // Back Home

After an incredible week pedaling through the most inhospitable terrain of the planet , we are recharged with energy to go back home. We will cross by barge through the incredible Chelenko Lake and then go to Balmaceda airport. Giving thanks and keeping the experience forever.
